Are you in need of a storage unit, but haven't considered the need for a regular storage unit or a climate-controlled unit? If so, it will help to know some of the benefits of both of these types of units.

Regular Storage Unit

One of the biggest benefits of a regular storage unit is going to be the price. The unit will cost less when compared to a climate-controlled unit, simply because of the reduced cost due to the unit not needing heating and cooling. If you're looking to save as much as possible on your storage unit, a regular unit will be best for this reason alone.

You also should think about the convenience of a regular storage unit. These units typically allow you to drive up to them with your vehicle so that you have direct access. This makes it simple to unload things into the storage unit or pick things up when you need them. This is a convenience that is definitely not possible with a climate-controlled unit.

Climate-Controlled Storage Unit

You are going to want a climate-controlled unit if you have items that can become damaged if they are exposed to extreme temperatures. Some common items that should be put into a climate-controlled storage unit are digital media, photographs, collectibles, furniture made out of leather or wood, and electronic devices.

Think of things that are affected by humidity getting into the item or if items can expand and contract due to the weather. Paying a little bit extra for a climate-controlled storage unit will result in saving an item that can potentially be damaged in a regular storage unit. If an item is damaged, it defeats the whole purpose of using your time and money to hang onto the item in a storage unit.

Climate-controlled storage is going to be located inside a building, which makes it less convenient to access. If you are frequently accessing your storage unit, you may not like that you have to move things a further distance to simply get them in and out of the unit. If you are not storing items that are affected by extreme temperatures, then you may find that climate-controlled storage is not necessary. Some facilities offer outdoor accessible storage units that have insulated garage doors, but it is not as common as an indoor unit.
